Verify Facts Before Forwarding Chain Mail

April 22nd, 2008 Posted in Daily Life, Lifestyle, Technology, Tidbits

This morning I received an e-mail telling me that North Carolina had enacted a law set to go into effect July 1st, 2008 regarding cell phone usage while driving. I thought it sounded like a good law, and I was all ready to post a blog entry about this issue, when I decided to do a little fact-checking like legitimate news sources do.

I can’t seem to find anything about this new law that takes place on that particular date. I did find a link to an older bill that was supposed to go into effect on December 1st, 2007. So it looks like if you’re a minor, not using a hands-free device, or a school bus driver, you are already not allowed to use your cell phone while you drive.

That means when I’m in traffic behind you and I yell at you and honk your horn and make a motion for you to “hang it up” - you’d better do it, because that’s the law.
