Quite Possibly a Vampire

March 19th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in A.D.D., Daily Life, Entertainment, Err., Health, What the...?!

The last couple days I’ve had several severe migraines, like back when I was getting my wisdom teeth. It seems directly proportional to the amount of sunlight to which I’ve been exposed. I’ve mostly gotten over my temporary lactose intolerance, but I still seem to have bad acid-reflux from other food items. Last night Kylara made Ruff and I spaghetti and it was delicious, and I did okay eating that.  I’m going to try to drink more water.

I’ve always wondered if certain people are tuned for irregular sleep schedules without detriment to their health. I figure, years and years ago when everyone had to be a farmer and a hunter or some other kind of tradesman to barter for what they needed, everything was lined up with the hours of sunlight in the day. So people naturally lined their sleep patterns up with the rising and falling of the sun.

If it’s not  inherent or biological, it seems likely that now and then there should be people who feel more naturally in tune with a later schedule. I have always felt more in line with sleeping from around 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. and then getting up for my waking hours.

It clashes with so many paradigms in our society, such as store and restaurant hours, school hours, and most places of business. Which also means that those who work these sorts of hours would be confined to 3rd shifts at menial jobs, working at night clubs and bars, internet businesses, and call center (like 911 or technical support services) / telemarketing work.

I like the sunlight, don’t get me wrong. It’s warm and comforting and gives me a tan if I stay out in it long enough. But when you’re trapped underground like I am all day, and you (by choice) leave only the emergency lights on in your call center, you get adjusted to the darkness. I jokingly say “Curse the Day Star!” when I go outside and see the sun.

Also, as of recently, I’ve found it enjoyable to bite people. I’ve been ordering my steaks cooked medium rare, and they’re delicious. Garlic is less appealing to me than it used to be. I still love Jesus and the crucifix doesn’t make me hiss. So either it’s all coincidence, or maybe I am becoming a vampire and not all the symptoms from the movies are true.

(P.S. Mom, this is purely farcical in nature, I don’t really think I’m becoming a vampire.)

Happy Birthday, Nicolas Cage!

January 7th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in A.D.D., Entertainment, celebrities, movies

Nicolas CageNicolas Cage was born today in 1964, making him a whopping 44 years old today. Cage is the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola. He was born Nicolas Kim Coppola, but changed his name to try and make a career on his own.

Cage got his first big break in film while reading lines with auditioning actors for the movie Rumblefish, and landed himself a role in the film. He then got a role as the punk-rocker in the film Valley Girl, which was actually released first and truly started his career. It is also of note that Cage got Johnny Depp his first gig as an actor.

Five Hour Drives

Tomorrow evening after work, I have a five hour drive most of the way across North Carolina to go home to see my parents and family for the holidays. I have a whole week off work, which is nice. I just wish I could instantly teleport there. That’d be nice. Santa, as a Christmas gift this year, eliminate the 5 hour drive to my parents and make it instantaneous travel. I’ve been sort of good. Right?

That long of a drive really wears on your body. It makes my back tense up, and makes for uncomfortable sleep afterwards. I usually hook up the iPod to the car stereo and play my iTunes collection while I drive, and jam out the whole way home. It’s nice, but I like driving at night even less than the five-hour part. People are all going to be trying to get somewhere, and I hope the traffic isn’t bad. I’ll get home around 10 - 11:30 pm, depending on weather and traffic.

It’ll be nice to get to bed and sleep in Saturday morning, and know that I’ve got a whole week away from this place and this desk and the people who call the help desk for support. That’s one of the best gifts I could get for Christmas from the state. Happy Holidays everybody!

Hidden Treasure: ABT is a new ‘Electronics Mecca’

I was pleasantly surprised to load up ABT’s website in my browser and immediately notice the “fresh and clean” feeling of a well-designed web page. You can tell it was not thrown together in haste, and is professional to a tee.

The claim to being the new “Electronics Mecca” is most definitely not an understatement. They carry almost every brand under the sun in consumer electronics - Apple, Sony, Samsung - all the heavy contenders for major products and their accessories.

I really wish I had known about this web site before I did my Christmas shopping this year - on the other hand, I might have spent all my Christmas money on myself! I browsed around the site, mostly in the GPS section and MP3 DVD players, looking at prices, and nearly everything is on sale. Some prices are so low you have to add them to your cart to see the price. There’s even free shipping on orders under 50 pounds, Apple, Yamaha, Bose, Denon, and Canton products, and all bigscreen TVs! If you happen to live within their delivery areas, it could even be delivered by an ABT installation professional.

I Should Never Blog Before Coffee

December 13th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in A.D.D., Daily Life, Err., My Life, caffeine, sleep

I miss my boss. She always made the coffee in the morning, and was here early enough that it was ready by the time I got to work. She’s left for a Christmas vacation, and now the coffee goes unmade. I’ve been drinking sodas the last few mornings, but that doesn’t quite do the trick the same way as coffee.

Maybe part of my problem is I haven’t been sleeping well. I’m not sure if I’ve been overdoing the caffeine during the day, or if stress is keeping me from sleeping deeply. It was nice that I came into work and was able to find a parking space and got into the office on time. Exam week has been crazy - apparently students lose all sense of morality and unselfishness and general common sense right after “Reading Day.”

We had a rousing time last night hanging out (my friends and I) playing a neat dice game I enjoy, but there were a lot of times where it just went kind of slow. A lot of my friends are pretty competitive and / or ADD, so there were some mood-killers present and it kind of brought the whole thing down. Maybe things will be better today. I sure hope so.
