Get Help Relocating to Your New Job Overseas

January 13th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Automotive, Bed, Work, furniture, moving, travel

If you’re moving overseas to your new job, you’re going to need some help. Aside from all the travel arrangements and finding a new place to live, you’re going to need people to help you with your actual move. While friends are good for packing, and dedicated friends might help you move to another state - it’ll be hard to find friends with resources to help you move overseas.

That’s why you’ll need a moving service that does international relocation. InternationalMovers.com has resources to help you get your furniture, personal effects, electronics (including large appliances) - even your car - moved from the States overseas.

Sick As a Dog Now…

January 7th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Bed, Daily Life, My Life, Work, furniture, sick

So apparently all that cold weather has caught up with me. I also haven’t taken my multivitamin for a couple weeks, and that’s my own fault. I woke up this morning (on my new queen size bed!) and felt like I was swallowing daggers. My head was hurting all over, and my sinuses were all congested.

I’ve stayed home from my day job today, just mainly going to try and rest and get better. It’s a good thing I have a laptop; I can blog from bed! I’ll just need to disinfect the keyboard and trackpad when I feel better. Those of you who pray - pray for a quick healing!

Christmas Countdown: 4 Days Left

So today’s the long night of driving (5 hours, for those of you just joining us) from here to my parents’ house. Ever since I’ve been back at the university (I lived in Virginia for a year), I’ve had second-hand furniture (minus my computer desk) and slept on a couple mattresses up on a homemade wooden loft. I kept lots of stuff underneath this loft in boxes and covered it around the outside with a few sheets to hide away the mess.

This past week I’ve demolished that loft (scroll saws are fun!) and had to clear out that mess. Now I’ve got two mattresses on the floor and my room is rearranged. I must have found about 50% more floor space after I rearranged some of my furniture! The reason for all this is that I will soon be the proud owner of a second-hand awesome full-size bed with box springs and frame and headboard, the works! I used to have one in high school but I didn’t take good care of it so it got dilapidated and put out by the side of the road. I’m excited to have a bed where my feet don’t hang off the end anymore! Hurray for Christmas - just 4 more days!

Five Hour Drives

Tomorrow evening after work, I have a five hour drive most of the way across North Carolina to go home to see my parents and family for the holidays. I have a whole week off work, which is nice. I just wish I could instantly teleport there. That’d be nice. Santa, as a Christmas gift this year, eliminate the 5 hour drive to my parents and make it instantaneous travel. I’ve been sort of good. Right?

That long of a drive really wears on your body. It makes my back tense up, and makes for uncomfortable sleep afterwards. I usually hook up the iPod to the car stereo and play my iTunes collection while I drive, and jam out the whole way home. It’s nice, but I like driving at night even less than the five-hour part. People are all going to be trying to get somewhere, and I hope the traffic isn’t bad. I’ll get home around 10 - 11:30 pm, depending on weather and traffic.

It’ll be nice to get to bed and sleep in Saturday morning, and know that I’ve got a whole week away from this place and this desk and the people who call the help desk for support. That’s one of the best gifts I could get for Christmas from the state. Happy Holidays everybody!

The Quest for Space

December 18th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Bed, Christmas, Decor, Holidays, furniture, w00t

My three-day mission: to explore and claim as much space as I can… in my room. I have re-arranged several pieces of furniture and reclaimed over half my floor space in my bedroom at home. That, of course, left an inordinate amount of junk on my floor. I sorted out most of what could be thrown away. Then I threw the rest in the top of the closet. Does this sound like your organization style? I thought so.

I’m doing all of this because I really want to be able to put in the full-size bed I’m getting for Christmas. My grandma is getting rid of it so that she can go buy a new one. Apparently though, this one’s really nice and has a headboard and everything. I’m kind of excited about not sleeping like a college student up on top of a loft anymore. So, the last steps in getting ready for this new piece of furniture will be cleaning out the stuff I’ve been storing underneath the loft, and then deconstructing the loft itself. I really don’t know where I’m going to put the leftover wood. I’ve been thinking about building a storage rack or workbench for computer repairs, but I’m not that handy so I’ll have to find some plans that will work with the wood I’ve got.
