Barack Obama for Change

Obama for President

Look, I’m by no means going to turn this into a political blog, or blog all year long about Barack Obama and how you should vote for him, because that’s not why you came here. I will, however, keep up with the elections and what’s going on. For this post only, because this is my personal blog, I’d like to endorse a candidate: Barack Obama.

You may have noticed in a previous post that I had mentioned I was supporting a candidate financially and that he shall remain nameless. Well, now you know! So, why Obama, you might ask? I have, until recently, lost a lot of hope in America. I have had thoughts of moving to Canada or Europe one day, because some days I’m just not feeling patriotic. When I hear Obama talk about change, and hope, and health care, and being better Americans, and that change needs to happen both in Washington and in every American.

Some people don’t like Obama strictly on his views on gun control, abortion, gay marriage, and the other “talkable” issues, but I’d rather have someone who’s for more rights than for taking them away. I’m not for those things, but I’m not for our government controlling them either.

Barack Obama is a passionate orator, and his political record seems pretty clean, albeit briefer than others. I’ve heard several people say that Obama lacks political experience to run the country; I’d say that’s better than having someone stuck in their old ways, full of corruption or their own agenda. I want a president who makes me proud to be an American - someone who inspires and leads us and brings this nation back together.

I think my soap box rental is up, so I’m going to step down and return it. In the meantime, check out my fund-raising page:

The Raging Tech for Obama - My official fund-raising goal is just $1,000. It’s all managed by Obama for America 2008, so don’t think any of it is going in my pocket. Also, it’s just called The Raging Tech for Obama, but that’s me as a blog author, not the business entity.

Presidential Race 2008 Most Expensive Election Ever

January 16th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Daily Life, Election 2008, Lifestyle, Politics, w00t

Presidential ElectionAccording to the AFP news wire, this year’s presidential election campaign will be the most expensive ever. Several financial magazines and political magazines estimate that the last election - most expensive for its time - was a whopping 693 million dollars. For that money, we saw a few political ads on TV, some signs in yards, and a nominal amount of press coverage.

This year, the estimated cost of the 2008 Presidential race is sitting at 3 billion dollars. Now, I’m not saying that anyone’s being bought or sold here - but I do believe there will be people to answer to after someone’s been elected.

When you go to the polls this year, think about who your candidate is going to have to answer to. Because in the end, money will win it. Are you supporting your candidate financially and not just at the polls?

If you haven’t been politically active before, maybe it’s time to start? Let the politician you support haveĀ  more of his supporters to answer to than PACs and lobbyists. It’s time for a change.

Countdown to November: Register to Vote!

January 8th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Election 2008, vote

Rock the CaucusAlright, so if you have a computer, internet, a printer, and a stamp, are 18 or older and a United States citizen there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be registered to vote. I don’t care what party you affiliate yourself with, but it’s indifference that let the last election go the way it did.

I’m not normally one to be political, especially here on this blog, but indifference is killing me. People refusing to vote for this reason or that reason are ridiculous. I understand the electoral college has issues, and there are theories about electronic voting systems being rigged, etc. I saw the movie Man of the Year. I don’t care - get off your duff and get registered, and then actually VOTE on election day.

I haven’t re-registered to vote since I moved back to this area, and today I decided after contributing to a presidential candidate (who shall remain nameless) that I should probably get that done now while it’s on my mind.

So I tried this Rock the Vote thing, and their online web form is pretty straight forward. You just fill it out, follow the directions, and it generates a PDF file for you to print out. And get this, if you fold the pages in half and staple the form and the mailer page together, you don’t even need an envelope. Just staple or tape it together and then stick a stamp on it and mail it off to your state’s board of elections. Go do it now before I hit you.
