Oh Quizmasters, You’ve Never Been More Wrong

June 18th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Energy, Entertainment, Health, What the...?!

It is my firm belief that the following test is skewed, and does not properly account for computer geeks or gamers, who have an unbelievable practiced speed-click ability with a computer mouse.

This seems like an entirely silly way to determine someone’s caffeination levels. If you want a truly scientific method, test your blood. The only sad thing is, by the time you get the results, they probably won’t help you, since caffeine only stays in your blood for like 4 hours before you pee it out.

Today I am exhausted, I didn’t sleep well at all last night. I got up, got into the shower, and for some reason it just would not stop squeaking at me. I usually get rid of that sound by turning the shower part off and on again and after a couple of times it will usually adjust and stop making noises. Today it was like pure torture, being half-comatose and having to deal with that ungodly squelch every fifteen seconds.

Caffeinated ENGOBI Guitar Hero Battle Contest

May 15th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Daily Life, Energy, Food, Lifestyle, Technology, caffeine

Do you rock daily with Aerosmith, Guns ‘n Roses, Ozzy, Coheed and Cambria? When someone asks if you play the six-string, do you say, “No, I play the five buttons.” Do you relentlessly air guitar to EVERY song you hear EVER, including hymns at church? Do you try to imagine what color the notes will be? Do you make discouraging remarks at neighbors who think your video games are too loud? There is a very, very good chance that you may be here to save the world, Guitar Hero.

ENGOBI, the bastard child of snack chips and caffeine, wants you to get all hopped up on their product and then film you and your friends doing your best riffs and stage dives and other cool rockstar moves, and upload it to ENGOBI.com.

In this “Don’t be a Piano Hero” contest, your video can showdown against other Guitar Heroes and you could have a chance to win an Xbox 360-enabled Fender Stratocaster, some gear from ENGOBI, and other miscellaneous prizes.

The ENGOBI girls are making their way down the coast, in the ENGOBI van, probably eating some ENGOBI, they’ll be giving away gear and letting you play Guitar Hero with your friends van side. My parents always told me to stay away from vans offering video games and snacks. However, if there are hot girls inside, I don’t see why it would be a problem.

Keep It Green: Light Your Yard with Solar Power

February 12th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Decor, Energy, Gadgets, Keep It Green, Lifestyle, Technology

Yes, I am aware that during the daylight hours, everyone’s yard is lit by solar power. Unless you live in one of those parts of the planet where it’s night for months at a time. But what I’m talking about is enviro-friendly landscape lighting for your yard or property at night. I’ve written previously of the obvious energy efficiency benefits of using LED lighting.

Now, with LED lighting becoming more and more popular, the price has finally come to a point that makes solar landscape lighting for your yard at home or your business landscape an affordable reality. It also means that you’re doing your part to reduce the amount of energy you use and lightening your impact on the environment.

If you don’t already have outdoor lighting, try adding in a decorative tree, or lighting your walk way, or just place lights further out into your yard to increase safety and usability of your yard after dark.

Post-Holiday Fat: Lose that Santa Belly

Weight Loss HQ has an article on how to lose belly fat that got me thinking: I have a belly that’s not small. I’m not morbid, but I am not exactly anorexic. So how do you get rid of the damage your body took from all those pies, cookies, cakes, and truffles you had over the holiday season? It’s pretty straight forward: diet and exercise. There’s no special pill, no “tricks” or products you especially have to buy that will work a miracle on your tummy.

Your body stores fat because you take in more calories than you use. So the simple explanation is to use up the extra calories with some sort of aerobic exercise, like walking or biking or swimming. This also needs to be supplemented by a healthy diet, around 30% fats and 1/3 of that being saturated fats. There are lots of Weight Loss Plans out there. Pick one that works for you, but always remember no plan is going to be complete if it does not incorporate eating right and exercising your body.

Brr! I Said It’s Cold In Here

January 6th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Daily Life, Energy, Winter, cold

Sorry, I was having a flashback to the movie Bring It On for a minute there. This week has been colder than the White House approval ratings! (Zing! Cue Jay Leno’s band that plays music after each of his jokes that aren’t that funny.) But seriously, it’s averaged around 15 degrees F low and maybe as high as 50 degrees F.

We have an overall baseboard heating system in our home, but fuel costs so much we keep it on the bare minimum which doesn’t do us any good. So for the most part, our home is heated by space heaters. I’ve been looking at upgrading to vent-free gas-powered space heaters, because these little heaters just aren’t doing the trick when the temperature drops like it did this week.

Apparently, even though they’re gas propane heaters, they reduce your energy bill pretty nicely. These make exceptional supplemental heat sources, which is what I’m needing right now. Maybe this cold spell will die out quickly and we’ll just have Fall-ish weather for the rest of the winter, thanks to global warming.
