Caffeinated ENGOBI Guitar Hero Battle Contest

May 15th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Daily Life, Energy, Food, Lifestyle, Technology, caffeine

Do you rock daily with Aerosmith, Guns ‘n Roses, Ozzy, Coheed and Cambria? When someone asks if you play the six-string, do you say, “No, I play the five buttons.” Do you relentlessly air guitar to EVERY song you hear EVER, including hymns at church? Do you try to imagine what color the notes will be? Do you make discouraging remarks at neighbors who think your video games are too loud? There is a very, very good chance that you may be here to save the world, Guitar Hero.

ENGOBI, the bastard child of snack chips and caffeine, wants you to get all hopped up on their product and then film you and your friends doing your best riffs and stage dives and other cool rockstar moves, and upload it to ENGOBI.com.

In this “Don’t be a Piano Hero” contest, your video can showdown against other Guitar Heroes and you could have a chance to win an Xbox 360-enabled Fender Stratocaster, some gear from ENGOBI, and other miscellaneous prizes.

The ENGOBI girls are making their way down the coast, in the ENGOBI van, probably eating some ENGOBI, they’ll be giving away gear and letting you play Guitar Hero with your friends van side. My parents always told me to stay away from vans offering video games and snacks. However, if there are hot girls inside, I don’t see why it would be a problem.

Gimme Some Sugar, Sugar

May 7th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Business, Daily Life, Food, Lifestyle

I’ve been diabetic for the last 8 years, at least. I was diagnosed in High School, and since then I’ve been doing my best to avoid sugar. I mostly stick to things that are salty, crunchy, or artificially sweetened.

However, for the rest of you folks, did you know that most of the world’s sugar prices are determined by what goes on in the country of Brazil? Simple fluctuations in production in Brazil can have massive effect on the world’s sugar supply.

In 2002, a record produce of sugar from Brazil sent world sugar prices down to well below 5 cents a pound. It’s hard to get the pure sugar that Brazil makes, because most of it is held back for ethanol production. The stuff we usually see over here is raw brown sugar.

If you’d like to learn more about Brazilian Sugar, there is lots of information available on the internet. Google is your friend! This has been an educational post by The Raging Tech.

Hot Date: Olive Garden and Baby Mama

Last night I had a hot date with my girl. I showed up at her place and I was dressed up to try and look good for her, but it was pretty irrelevant next to the sight I saw when she opened the front door. She was gorgeous! She wore this little black dress she has borrowed from a friend. It’s a little low cut but tasteful, straps, bows, etc. and an open back. She had her hair down but back, and she was glittery (she calls it shimmer). She was also wearing fish nets and combat boots. Yeah, that’s my girl! Be jealous.

We drove out of town, because our small mountain town doesn’t have too many good restaurants, and went to an Olive Garden, which happens to be one of our favorite restaurants. The breadsticks were delicious as usual. I had the potato and sausage soup, which was delicious but I burnt my tongue - my own fault. She had salad. She ordered the Tour of Italy (basically three entrees: lasagna, chicken parmigiana, and fettuccine alfredo) and I had the Steak Gorgonzola over fettuccine alfredo. We followed that up with dessert (and more than half our food in boxes) - tiramisou for me and a black tie chocolate mousse cake for her.

The waiter came by with the check and said “Oh, by the way, don’t tell anyone, but dessert is on me.” That must have been about $12 worth of free dessert he just gave us. Overall, our dining experience was awesome. The waiter gave us excellent service, and I spent the money I would have spent on dessert on his tip.

We left Olive Garden (or the “OG” as I refer to it) and went to Books-a-Million to window shop. Kylara picked up some bargain bin books, and I picked up Cracking the GMAT (2008 with DVD) to help me study and pass the GMAT sometime soon. I think I’m going to have to use my Economic Stimulus Payment to cover the test cost - it’s about $250 to take it, and I don’t intend to have to take it more than once.

We finished up our evening away by seeing “Baby Mama” - the new movie with Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Dax Shepherd, Steve Martin, Sigourney Weaver, and Greg Kinnear - where Tina Fey needs someone to be a surrogate mother, so she hires lower-class white-trash Amy Poehler’s character to do the job. There are some other plot twists that weren’t mentioned in the trailers, but certainly make it slightly more interesting than it looked in commercials. I enjoyed the movie and laughed a lot - but if you’re on the fence about seeing it in theaters or waiting to rent the DVD - wait to rent it.

My Buzz on Canadian Club

April 19th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Daily Life, Food, alcohol, consumer tips, free stuff

I’ve mentioned before that I’m a BzzAgent - which means I take part in consumer-driven word-of-mouth campaigns. We don’t get any kind of serious compensation except getting to try products for free or at a serious discount, or we get t-shirts or other cool stuff.

This week I received a Buzz kit in the mail containing a Canadian Club rocks glass, some print materials telling me about the whisky, and a medium women’s t-shirt that says “Damn Right Your Dad Drank It” with a picture of a white guy with an afro and two women. I thought it was a neat shirt, but there’s no way I can wear a women’s medium t-shirt. I guess that’s all they had left when I picked out my size earlier.

It also came with a rebate coupon for a 750ml bottle (a fifth) of any Canadian Club Whisky up to $11.99. So we went to the ABC store and purchased a bottle of the premium, which was 100 proof. Once we got it home and I tried it, I liked it. It’s kind of smooth, but with a strong bite like a good whisky should.

What is the difference, you might ask, between whisky and whiskey (with an “e”)? Whisky is made in Canada, and whiskey (with an “e”) is made in Ireland. I have tasted both, and I have to say I don’t have a preference between the two.

A huge part of Canadian Club’s advertising is geared towards younger males, it seems, with a focus on correcting the emasculation of male drinkers everywhere. All of the imagery reminds me of old family photos - but also some of them are of young men and women in what appears to be the 50’s and 60’s, like if your mom and dad had MySpace or Facebook available to them back then.

That being said, I don’t want to encourage anyone to drink if you aren’t already a drinker, but if you do drink, drink responsibly and with some common sense. Never drive drunk. Try this stuff out if you want, I don’t get anything out of it if you do, I just think it’s neat and worth mentioning.
