Snowed In? Slack Out with Your Mac Out

With wintry weather upon us, a lot of people are unable to even leave their houses today. We’re fortunate enough to have light snowfall today and the roads aren’t bad. My roommate picked up Family Guy: Blue Harvest and my Netflix movies came in: Mystery Science Theater 3000 - the episode where they watch Mitchell - and I also received Blades of Glory.

So grab your favorite blanket, pop in a movie, pull out your laptop, and sit back and relax. You don’t have to do something every weekend. Just take it easy and enjoy some R ‘n R.

My birthday is next week - and if any of you incredibly benevolent folks wanted to purchase me one of these Massage Chairs made by Human Touch, I certainly wouldn’t turn it down. Apparently, these chairs are developed with the most advanced robotic massage system ever. It’s been modeled after techniques used by doctors, massage therapists, and chiropractors. If you had one of these, it’d make your “veg out” day just that much better.

Get Help Relocating to Your New Job Overseas

January 13th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Automotive, Bed, Work, furniture, moving, travel

If you’re moving overseas to your new job, you’re going to need some help. Aside from all the travel arrangements and finding a new place to live, you’re going to need people to help you with your actual move. While friends are good for packing, and dedicated friends might help you move to another state - it’ll be hard to find friends with resources to help you move overseas.

That’s why you’ll need a moving service that does international relocation. InternationalMovers.com has resources to help you get your furniture, personal effects, electronics (including large appliances) - even your car - moved from the States overseas.

Sick As a Dog Now…

January 7th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Bed, Daily Life, My Life, Work, furniture, sick

So apparently all that cold weather has caught up with me. I also haven’t taken my multivitamin for a couple weeks, and that’s my own fault. I woke up this morning (on my new queen size bed!) and felt like I was swallowing daggers. My head was hurting all over, and my sinuses were all congested.

I’ve stayed home from my day job today, just mainly going to try and rest and get better. It’s a good thing I have a laptop; I can blog from bed! I’ll just need to disinfect the keyboard and trackpad when I feel better. Those of you who pray - pray for a quick healing!

Timeless Passtime: Pool (Billiards, If You’re Fancy)

When I was a little kid, I thought playing pool was bad because they served alcohol and people drank at pool halls. I also knew that people gambled on pool and lost a lot of money, etc. My mom taught me one day at Waldo’s Beach how to play plain old 8-ball. It was later on some sort of church youth trip that I learned to play Cut-throat and 9-ball. Now, of course, that stigma has worn away and pool is very much a family-friendly game.

I last wrote about how we need to take a break from life. We need to slow down and take some time with our loved ones, and pool is a great way to have fun with your family! If you have kids, teach them to play! It’ll provide hours of entertainment for them, and they can play it even when you are busy working. If you and your family enjoy pool, you might consider some of the pool tables at Boston Tables for your home. They have a nice selection of tables that would look great in any game room or recreational room in your home. You can also purchase cues, balls, chalk and other accessories. A pool table would also look great if you were building a bar in your house for your friends to hang out at!

Things From TV: Extreme Makeover Window Coverings

blinds.jpgNow, I haven’t really watched too many of these home makeover shows - I think the last one I really watched much at all was “Trading Spaces” on TLC where the couples redecorated or renovated their neighbor’s or friend’s houses.

However, these types of shows are always a blast. Just yesterday I kept thinking that one day when I am able to own my own home, I’d love to do cool projects to it or design it from scratch. I really dig modern architecture, home fixtures, and cool furniture.

I found the company that provides the show “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” with window coverings online. It’s a company called Select Blinds, and they have some really nice window treatments.

It’s also really nice that they’re able to help those families that get selected on the show. They have all styles of blinds (my favorite so far are the wooden blinds) and shades, at really decent prices. I really like the wooden shades, so be sure and check those out if you’re looking to give your house an “extreme makeover.”

Christmas Countdown: 4 Days Left

So today’s the long night of driving (5 hours, for those of you just joining us) from here to my parents’ house. Ever since I’ve been back at the university (I lived in Virginia for a year), I’ve had second-hand furniture (minus my computer desk) and slept on a couple mattresses up on a homemade wooden loft. I kept lots of stuff underneath this loft in boxes and covered it around the outside with a few sheets to hide away the mess.

This past week I’ve demolished that loft (scroll saws are fun!) and had to clear out that mess. Now I’ve got two mattresses on the floor and my room is rearranged. I must have found about 50% more floor space after I rearranged some of my furniture! The reason for all this is that I will soon be the proud owner of a second-hand awesome full-size bed with box springs and frame and headboard, the works! I used to have one in high school but I didn’t take good care of it so it got dilapidated and put out by the side of the road. I’m excited to have a bed where my feet don’t hang off the end anymore! Hurray for Christmas - just 4 more days!

The Quest for Space

December 18th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Bed, Christmas, Decor, Holidays, furniture, w00t

My three-day mission: to explore and claim as much space as I can… in my room. I have re-arranged several pieces of furniture and reclaimed over half my floor space in my bedroom at home. That, of course, left an inordinate amount of junk on my floor. I sorted out most of what could be thrown away. Then I threw the rest in the top of the closet. Does this sound like your organization style? I thought so.

I’m doing all of this because I really want to be able to put in the full-size bed I’m getting for Christmas. My grandma is getting rid of it so that she can go buy a new one. Apparently though, this one’s really nice and has a headboard and everything. I’m kind of excited about not sleeping like a college student up on top of a loft anymore. So, the last steps in getting ready for this new piece of furniture will be cleaning out the stuff I’ve been storing underneath the loft, and then deconstructing the loft itself. I really don’t know where I’m going to put the leftover wood. I’ve been thinking about building a storage rack or workbench for computer repairs, but I’m not that handy so I’ll have to find some plans that will work with the wood I’ve got.
