Unusual Holiday Gift Idea: Cryo-Cell Gift Certificate

October 27th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Health, Holidays, Lifestyle, Technology

The holiday season is fast approaching, many people shopped early and already have their Christmas shopping done, and most of us are waiting till the last minute to figure out what to get everyone. If you’re looking for something unusual or special to give to someone who is expecting a new baby, there’s a really neat idea (depending on how you feel about this sort of thing): give a Cryo-Cell gift certificate.

A Cryo-Cell gift certificate can be given in increments of $50 up to any amount, and will help a family have their child’s cord blood cells stored and cryogenically frozen. Studies have shown that all sorts of diseases such as leukemia, diabetes, lymphoma, and cerebral palsy. Imagine how they’ll feel if later on your gift saves that kid’s life?! It’s pretty amazing technology, and if you think they’ll use it, it’s a pretty thoughtful gift to some people.

Cryo-Cell is a company that can help these expecting parents preserve their child’s cord blood for years and years, and like I said, if you feel like this is an appropriate gift, they will remember it forever if they ever need it one day. Check out Cryo-Cell’s web site for their current offers.

Holiday Alert: Valentine’s Day

I know Valentine’s Day is not a minor holiday, and no one really gets off work for Valentine’s Day. But, being I’m a guy who is seeing someone now, I thought it’d be nice to remind my readers that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. You still have 8 days to make arrangements or find something nice for someone special.

Now, I know my readers may have differing opinions on Valentine’s Day festivities and the silliness or respectable tradition of the whole fiasco, but a good portion of you will have reason to participate, even on a minimal scale.

That being said, don’t waste any time! Get your reservations, flowers sending scheduled, chocolates, and cards - all will be scarce in the next few days as countless couples make plans and get ready. On the bright side, as soon as the holiday is over, you immediately have National “That’s What She Said” Day on February 15th. So even if the 14th is Singles Awareness Day for you, you have something to look forward to, along with deeply-discounted Valentine’s Day candy at local grocers.

Call Your Mother Before I Do

I think people don’t call home to their parents enough. I’m not a parent, but I think once I have kids and they move out, I’m darn well going to want to hear from them. I think my generation is fairly bad for this kind of thing. We are so caught up in our own lives we often can be bad for forgetting about them until they call us.

My mom’s pretty awesome - she calls me every weekend at some point just to chat about what’s gone on that week. It’s not always a long conversation, if we don’t have anything to talk about, we just briefly say nothing is new, and then say I love you and hang up.

My family is all on Verizon, and we have their free in-network calling, so cost isn’t an issue for me for the long distance. But for some people, their family may not have good cell reception or they may not even have cell phones yet. So rather than waste your minutes, go to Phone Avenue to buy phone cards at an affordable rate. Right now they offer 3% cash back rebate program on all phone card purchases. It’s pretty affordable, especially if your loved ones live overseas.

Leave Big Ben Behind for a Florida Tan

Aye! If you’re one of our neighbours in the United Kingdom, you’re probably looking a little pale right about now. Not because you’re British, but because you get less hours of sunlight per day, geographically speaking. If you want a little more relaxation than a day at the spa and visiting the tanning booth, you might consider going on holiday over here in the States where, in some parts, it’s still warm!

Florida, because of it’s position nearer to Central America, has more warm days of the year and even its cold days aren’t so bad. If I were going to Florida right now, I’d want to check out flights to Florida and then book a hotel somewhere like Miami - which has an active club scene and night life. I’d probably then rent a car and go to Orlando to visit Disney World, and then fly out from there back to the UK. Florida - one of the few places left in the States not completely frozen over with ice.

Holiday Alert: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 18th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Holidays

We all hate it when we’re making plans or thinking about the upcoming week and writing e-mails or updating our calendars only to find out there’s a holiday we forgot about. It’s easy to get caught up in life and forget about these things. Christmas, Easter, birthdays and anniversaries are easier, but sometimes the other national holidays catch us unaware.

So, I thought I’d post and remind everyone that Monday is a national holiday in the USA, and most banks, the post office, and major government buildings and schools should be be closed on Monday. If you remember last year, we celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with our usual humor. We’re probably going to do it again this year - it’s becoming a tradition!

Run Away Forever: Hotel-Like Apartments in Budapest

The internet isn’t what it used to be. It’s better. Ten years ago, if someone had said “I’m moving to Budapest and I’m going to work from home over the internet,” I’d have called them crazy or been extremely impressed they were that high up in their company. Nowadays, the internet makes it possible to be a dot com millionaire in your underpants at home or in your trunks on the beach.

Global delivery services, Google, Amazon, eBay, PayPal - even an entrepreneur could use these services and make it big while permanently on vacation in a place like Budapest. If this sounds like your dream, start looking for a place there now. Or even if you’re just thinking of a Budapest vacation - you can find apartments that have all the same accommodations you’d expect from a 3-5 star hotel. Go take a break, you deserve it.

New Nursing Moms: Stay Hip & Feel Stylish

I am a man and a budding blog author. I am not new to writing, but I am trying everyday to expand my perceptions and take on other view points and perspectives on life. A couple women I know are pregnant or have recently had a baby. I could be wrong, but I’m sure that self-image is an issue that effects not just women, but especially pregnant women or nursing mothers. There’s no need for you to not feel beautiful - in fact, I’ve heard many new fathers say their wives were never more beautiful to them than when they were having their child. But if you’d like to try some outfits made special for nursing and pregnant women, check out NursingPJs.com.

Their website claims to have the best nursing fashions available. Their Maternity Pajamas are described as hip, stylish, and most importantly, comfortable. And while they sell maternity attire, their goal is to help nursing mothers feel young and attractive and look great. They also have free shipping for the holidays, though I’m not sure how long that will last.
