Disney Radio Stars Concerts in Jersey

June 17th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Disney, travel, vacation

My girl has had me watching the ABC Family Channel, and since Disney owns them, you see cross-promotion for shows on the Disney channel, and occasionally I’ve been known to watch some Disney. I’m vaguely familiar with your Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana and your Raven Symone, but by no means am I able to name any of their songs.

If you have never thought of New Jersey as a possible vacation destination, I encourage you to think again, especially if you enjoy those Disney recording artists mentioned above. The upcoming Radio Disney Summer Concert series will be held at Morey’s Piers in the month of July in Wildwood, New Jersey. Imagine yourself on one of your first Wildwood vacations.

Also, Morey’s Piers is a great vacation spot anyway - there are plenty of things to do in New Jersey. Be sure to check out some of the Wildwood Events. Be sure to present your Radio Disney Summer Concert Series finale ticket at Guest Services on Mariner’s Landing and to get $10 off a waterpark ticket for either Raging Waters or Ocean Oasis, or $10 off a wristband for the amusement pier, valid for all three of Morey’s Piers, or $15 off a one-day combination ticket to both sets of attractions.

It’s Dark, and We’re Wearing Sunglasses. Hit It.

May 18th, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in Entertainment, Lifestyle, travel, vacation

My wildest vacation was not wild as you suppose. I didn’t get drunk or go party in the city night life. I did, however, see a whole lot of culture on my stay in the Windy City - Chicago, Illinois.

Chicago is, as many of you know, the site of most scenes from the Blues Brothers movie. It’s interesting to go and try to spot all the historic sites from the movie, including the street corner in which Mr. T was an extra during the car chase scene.

Chicago is home of the blues - and boy was it easy to find! There are tons of blues cafe’s and historical museums that highlight local and famous jazz and blues musicians.

If you tune in to the radio late at night, sometimes you’ll actually hear Dan Akroyd as Elwood Blues doing a radio show!

The city tour is really where you should head if you’re interested in learning about the city and seeing the sights. Many companies offer double-decker bus tours, boat tours, and walking tours of downtown Chicago. If you’re from a smaller town, you’ll want to take precautions of course. Many morally bankrupt people will try to scam tourists and out-of-towners by pretending to be helpful and then either cheating you or giving you bad directions. If someone approaches you offering directions in exchange for a tip, ask them to take you and offer a little extra if they’re willing.

Chicago is the home of many television shows, movies, recording artists, actors, and sports figures. It’s entirely worth the time to explore this city. If you’ve never been, you should talk to a travel agent and book a tour with Trusted Tours. They’ll help you find things to do in Chicago, like sightseeing tours.

Trusted Tours & Attractions has a promo going on right now where if you sign up for their newsletter, you could win an $150 iTunes gift card. Also, if you’re booking a trip elsewhere, and were looking for say, things to do in Orlando, or Things to do in Las Vegas they have those too!

Vacation Season: Rent a Car

Rental cars take a lot of abuse! People always think that just because it’s not their car, they don’t have to live with it in the future, so why take care of it? Especially if they purchase that rental insurance at check out time. Renting a car should be considered a means to an end. It should be something to get you from A to B while you’re away from your own car.

Now I’m not saying you shouldn’t rent something nice and enjoy yourself, if you do have to rent a car. In fact, you should not only get something nice, but you shouldn’t pay a lot for it either. Always do your homework and shop online for your rental when planning your vacation, and plan way ahead to get just the car you want.

Advantage car rental is not only a website where you can preview their cars available, you can also manage every aspect of your car rental from the web. You can check rates, make reservations, see if they have locations near you and / or your destination, and there’s even a frequent renters program.

Their website details what discounts and specials are going on now, so check that out if you’re planning on going somewhere and need to rent a car.

Keep It Green: Vacation Season is Upon Us

The weather is warming up quickly, the chilly windy days are almost completely over around here (for those of you gawking at me, I live in the mountains, so it stays colder longer here). I’ve already cranked up the air conditioner a few days in a row now.

Last year in May I took a vacation to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and it was amazing. I did it all on the cheap, because it was more about just getting to go than it was about staying somewhere fancy. Although it still wasn’t exactly camping, it wasn’t the Hilton, either. We were about a half-mile from the beach in a decent hotel with wi-fi access and a continental breakfast.

This year, I might look into the Shangri La Gardens and Nature Center in the city of Orange, Texas. The name of the city even sounds nature-y. The big thing this past year seems to be everyone going “green” - and Shangri La Gardens is no exception. They have the U.S. Green Building Council’s Platinum certification for LEED®-NC, and almost every aspect of the center is focused around teaching people to be in harmony with the ecosystems around them. Not in a hippy-kinda way, though.

“Shangri La” typically is used to describe a place of peace, harmony, beauty, and a general state of enlightenment. The gardens in Orange, Texas exist to educate and improve the quality of life in the Southeast part of Texas. The gardens are also educational, featuring several opportunities for kids (of all ages) to observe nature, plants, and visit a laboratory.

Check out their website at the link above, and see what kinds of opportunities they have - this seems like a fun vacation idea for families, couples and single people who just want to get away to a serene environment and be surrounded by nature.

Leave Big Ben Behind for a Florida Tan

Aye! If you’re one of our neighbours in the United Kingdom, you’re probably looking a little pale right about now. Not because you’re British, but because you get less hours of sunlight per day, geographically speaking. If you want a little more relaxation than a day at the spa and visiting the tanning booth, you might consider going on holiday over here in the States where, in some parts, it’s still warm!

Florida, because of it’s position nearer to Central America, has more warm days of the year and even its cold days aren’t so bad. If I were going to Florida right now, I’d want to check out flights to Florida and then book a hotel somewhere like Miami - which has an active club scene and night life. I’d probably then rent a car and go to Orlando to visit Disney World, and then fly out from there back to the UK. Florida - one of the few places left in the States not completely frozen over with ice.
