The Weekend, Et al.

November 9th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Uncategorized

Things have been going well lately. I know I’ve neglected my blogging in favor of living my life and trying to connect with people again. I realized that if I want to recover my happiness I’m going to have to fight for it. I was caught up in the 2008 United States Presidential Election, like everyone else, and was feeling the fear and the hatred from everyone for supporting this candidate or another. I’m glad that’s over, for now.

My court date for my speeding ticket was Friday, and I got a Prayer for Judgement Continuance there, so no points on my insurance. I just have to make sure I don’t get a speeding ticket again for at least 3 years. That shouldn’t be hard, considering it’s been 7 years since the last one.

Friday night was game night - we went to dinner at a different Mexican place than we normally eat at, because the one we normally eat at is in a dry town, so they couldn’t serve alcohol. So at least here, we had plenty of seating and could order off the Margarita menu. I had a steak and gorgonzola cheese quesadilla that was rich and heavy and delicious.

At Marq and Melissa’s, half the group got into a video game called “Little Big Planet” and the rest of us moved into the dining room to play Chicken Foot (my Mom has learned this game, and loves it!). That actually seemed to drag on forever, and I didn’t win. After that they played a card game that doubles as a drinking game, and I sat out because I don’t really care for it. I moved over to another side of the table and sat with one of our new friends, Kristin, and played with her phone and watched her hand of cards.

Saturday I woke up and did some homework that needed to be done by 2pm, and then did some chatting online and surfing some sites. I cleaned up the living room and did a couple of loads of laundry, and tried to make the house tolerable for guests. Ruff came over for a while and we watched some TV. Kendall and he took me to Subway later, and then to Ingles to get stuff for Saturday night. I put on a little movie night at my house with ice cream and toppings. We watched “Resident Evil” and “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” on my big screen TV and utilized my big comfy couches. Brad brought some beer and I had some sodas I purchased, and we sat through both of these awesome flicks.

Sunday, this morning, I went to church at the Methodist church around the corner again. I’ve dyed my hair since the last time I was there, but I think several people still recognized me. I’m sort of sad, it was less interesting today than the last couple of times I went, and the preacher guy seemed a little biased against our new President Elect, but diplomatically wrapped it back up again in some positive spin about how we should all pray for our leaders for God’s wisdom, whether we like them or not.

I stopped at KFC and got this 10 piece meal on the way home so I could have several meals out of it, but one of the blockheads working there got my order wrong, and I wound up with mashed potatoes (which I wanted) and cole slaw (which I did not want). I didn’t realize it until I got home, but hey - if that’s the worst of my problems this week I’m in good shape.

I’ve been excited about the new Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, so today I watched “Casino Royale” and I still absolutely love Daniel Craig as the new James Bond. He does an excellent job of capturing Ian Flemming’s version of Bond, the ruffian orphan who went through prep school and excelled and became a secret agent. He has style, but there’s still an element of the street violent youth you don’t see in the Pierce Brosnan Bond, or most of the others except Sean Connery.

I’m going to my hometown this weekend to visit my Mom, and to give my Grandmother away at her wedding. I’ll also be meeting the guy Mom’s been on a few dates with on Sunday at church & dinner. I’m also supposed to setup Mom’s new computer that she bought last month and put Office and Antivirus software on there.

Pics of My New Dodge Caliber

October 27th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Uncategorized

Without further delay, here’s a photo gallery of pictures of my new 2008 Dodge Caliber that I got on Saturday. She’s a real beauty! And she rides like a dream. Hopefully everything goes smoothly with it and it’s a good car for a long time. It’s good on gas, has awesome features, and looks pretty awesome too. I couldn’t have asked for it in a better color!

So Now Do I Get Super Powers?

June 17th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Daily Life, Lifestyle, My Life, Uncategorized

It hit me this morning - I have had recurring nightmares for the last year or so about my dad dying suddenly, and then getting a phone call from my mom and having to come home, etc. It was a terrifying nightmare, and I’d wake up feeling like a bad omen was over me.

I thought this was my worst nightmare, that it would hurt so bad to lose him, or my mom, either one. I couldn’t imagine the pain, or dealing with it at all. I saw myself walking down a street as an older man, more mature and sort of… tamed.

But now - here I am. He’s passed away. Yes, I was devastated, and yes I miss him. But I know he’s with Jesus. The whole thing was not nearly as unbearable or life-altering as I thought it would be. My fears are relieved, because I know he’s better off now. We’ve (my family and I) been in the comfort of God’s hands this entire time.

So, now that I’ve been through and survived my worst nightmare so far, am I going to have an even worse nightmare, or do I become invincible like in the comic books? I don’t know if that actually makes me fearless, or hardened, or anything at all. But still… it’d be awesome to have super powers.
