Decision 2008: LOLObama or Presidential CATidate?

May 11th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Daily Life, Entertainment, LOLCats, Politics, vote

I saw this on Digg this morning and it made me laugh. Barack Obama just has this way of carrying himself, like he’s a real person. He doesn’t seem to have that air about him most politicians seem to have. He fits that picture in my head of a regular American who got fed up and got involved in the political process to change things. I don’t know if he’s going to be a good president or not, because everyone makes promises during election campaigns, and not everyone keeps them. All we can do is weigh the candidates and see who we think will be the best for the job.

Here’s a LOLCat-esque picture with Barak enjoying some fajitas:

Renuzit TriScents Home Makeover Semi-Finalists

In my bathroom at home, I have the cheaply priced 97-cent screw-top Renuzit air freshener, and I must say, they’re a lot more effective than candles or spraying, and they don’t overwhelm.

Renuzit is having a contest where participants are instructed to upload a video explaining why they feel like they deserve a Home Makeover in the contest titled “Transform Your Home with Tanya Meme.” Tanya is the star of A & E Emmy-nominated show “Sell This House!”

The girl in the screenshot above sings a hilarious song about how her Mom worked really hard to earn money to give to her for her education so she could earn her degree, and now with no money they can’t afford to fix up the kitchen, so she needs a home makeover.

I felt bad for the girl, but I enjoyed her out-of-tune singing and the hokeyness of her video. Go visit the contest page and find her in the semi-finalist gallery and vote for her to win! What’s great is you can vote every single day, once a day, until June 7th. If most of you do this, she’s almost sure to win.

The winner with the most votes will receive a $20,000 makeover with Tanya Memme - so vote early and often. I’m tempted to enter, but I don’t actually own my home - I’m a renter. Still, it’d be neat to have some lady come in and do $20k worth of fix-ups to a place I did own.

Rock the Vote: Presidential Primaries Tomorrow

May 5th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Daily Life, Lifestyle, My Life, Politics, Technology, vote

Tomorrow millions of Americans will get up off their lazy humps and decide on their party’s presidential candidate. One of the biggest noise-makers this year is the competition between Barack Obama and Senator Hillary Clinton. It’s been a trash-talking, mud-slinging campaign, but it’s important that you go out and vote tomorrow for the primaries.

It’s been neck-and-neck so far, and neither candidate has enough delegates to secure it all for November. If you are not already registered to vote, it may be too late to vote in the primaries tomorrow, but you can still make a difference in November, so be sure to register to vote.

If you’re not familiar with each candidate’s policies, be sure to check Wikipedia under each candidate’s names, and look for an unbiased comparison chart listing major hot topic issues. Most of these things can be found at RockTheVote.org, but you can find your own sources. That’s the best thing about voting - it’s your choice. Make your own opinions, no matter what anyone else tells you.

Don’t know if you’re registered to vote? Check out your State Board of Elections web site, and often times it can tell you if you’re registered to vote already. I had sent in my card months ago, but I wasn’t sure until I checked this morning on their site. Also, the SBOE for your state is a good place to look up polling locations.

Get out tomorrow and vote!

Pandora Music Radio

If you haven’t already, you should definitely point your browser over to Pandora, previously covered here. They’ve updated the interface, but the concept is still the same - you go create a radio station based on an artist or band you enjoy, or a song you really like. Then, they try to match that as closely as possible. You can fine tune your personalized station in two fairly easy ways:

1. Add more artists you like: If you like Gnarls Barkley, but you also want some girl rock in there, you might add artist Flyleaf to your station.

2. Vote on music you like or don’t like: Give it a thumbs up and the song will keep playing, and Pandora will learn what you like. Give it a thumbs down and the song stops playing and moves on to the next selection. Pandora also has options to turn on or off the songs flagged as possibly inappropriate or adult language or content.

You can also create more than one station, for free! Pandora is advertising supported, and run by the Music Genome project. If you find an indie artist you like, support them by following the links to buy the tracks on iTunes or Amazon, and you’ll also be supporting Pandora.

Bachelor Chow: El Tacos Del Pollo Del Dishwashero

January 14th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Bachelor Chow, Entertainment, Food, Lifestyle, Videos, cooking, travel, vote

A second installment of Bachelor Chow in one day? What could I be thinking? Could I have gone crazy? Darn right I’ve gone crazy! When you just don’t have the time or energy to be grilling chicken, you can try other, less delicious ways to cook your chicken. In this particularly special video episode of Bachelor Chow, The Raging Tech shows you how to cook frozen chicken chunks in the dish washer!

We don’t have El Pollo Loco here in the mountains, but I’m sure that ultimately, flame-grilled chicken is way better than dishwasher chicken. I have entered this video into their contest on their website. Go to Youtube and El Pollo Loco’s website and vote for me!
