Find a Better Deal on Web Hosting

While I’m pretty happy with my web host, Dream Host, you may not be happy with where your web site or blog are currently located. Perhaps you’ve seen banner ads and pop-ups and other forms of advertising at your favorite blog that has a deal you find more than tempting?

There’s more than a plethora of web hosts out there for your web site or blog or forum or whatever you might use your corner of the web to publish. With all the options, competition is high and prices keep dropping. But are you really getting a good deal?

Busy people, especially small businesses or entrepreneurs, don’t have time to shop around for a good web host. In fact, many may fall into the trap of paying too much for a cookie-cutter web page that barely stands out from the rest in their trade.

So what’s a reasonable person to do? Spend hours and hours doing research? You don’t have to - there are plenty of people who have gone before you and done the leg work. Web Hosting Geeks is one such web hosting comparison site that can help you make the right decision.

The thing I like best about Web Hosting Geeks’ site is that it immediately takes you to a bare-bones comparison of the most simple kind of web hosting with ratings and features. If you want to get into more features and complicated options, they have categories of web hosts you can look into. It’s an easy way to find cheap web hosting that fits your needs.

A Little House Cleaning

May 27th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Blog

I’m officially leaving Entrecard, the little badge that was on the right sidebar of my page before that would display various ads for people’s blogs. Why? Because the script’s and site’s slowdown was killing my page’s load time. It didn’t matter so much before, but for some reason on this theme it just wasn’t working.

Twitter is also on notice from me: their site is nice and the service is awesome, but the script’s load time to display on my blog was getting ridiculous.

I won’t blame the slow down solely on these two items, but they were what got hung up loading on my blog. I had both on my blog before with no problem. I think what might have been the major problem was the tabbed section on the upper right (where the RT logo is now). I’m going to replace those with ad space people can purchase. I’ve re-created the archives page with a plug-in and it’s now up at the upper-right corner, if you missed it.

I might try and put the Twitter code back, but Entrecard is gone for good. It’s been good for traffic when I first started, but then people stopped dropping but kept advertising with me. I apologize to those of you who faithfully dropped every day, and to the advertisers who I had to cancel your ads. You guys are awesome and part of what made Entrecard great.

Shark Week on Tech Jaws

May 19th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Entertainment, Technology, Tidbits

Tech Jaws, the technology news site that I co-operate with a fellow blogger, Frank J, is having Shark Week. What does that mean to you, readers and bloggers? It’s your chance to be featured on a high-profile, high-traffic technology news site for free!

The requirements are pretty simple, just go check out Tech Jaws’ Shark Week post and read the instructions, then leave a comment on that post, and mention you came there from The Raging Tech’s blog, and that will probably increase your chances that we’ll pick you to feature during Shark Week!

New Venture: ‘Tech Jaws’ Technology News Site

As I’ve been hinting at the last few days, and those of you following me on Twitter already know, I’m working with Frank J on a new tech news web site, Tech Jaws. It’s got an aggressive tone with a focus on the bleeding-edge of technology reviews, news, and tips.

This morning I posted an article reviewing the Logitech Harmony One universal remote control. This remote is simply awesome! Head on over to Tech Jaws and check out my review - complete with screenshots of the software and photos of the remote itself.

Also, feel free to comment - and when you do, mention you came there from my blog!

Money Money Money Money… MON-AY

Pay day is both happy and sad for me. I got paid on Wednesday this week. Since my paydays only come once a month, you can imagine how anxious it can make me to wait on it when I’m broke. The reason it’s sad is because that’s also the day I usually pay all my bills. Since I pay all my bills for the month at one time, that’s a huge chunk of my money that gets gone right away.

It’s better than not having the peace of mind that comes from trying to figure out how to make a bill on time to avoid late payments later on in the month. I’m also getting better at not buying too much that I don’t need. I said better, not that I’m good at it yet.

Also, I have a good amount of money pending from sponsored posts and advertisement here on this blog, and that’s helping tremendously. Another thing that’s going to help this month: Economic Stimulus Payment. Woot! That’s an extra 600 bucks that is going to pay for my GMAT and help me if I indeed move in with some friends out of town later in the summer.

I’m hoping to get some debt paid down over the next few months, to free up more of my income for savings and investment. That book I’m still trying to read, Rules for Renegades, is good at encouraging people to set goals and “Get Stuff Done” (your GSD degree instead of your MD or your doctorate). Crazy motivational books, always inspiring me to do stuff.
