TrailerAddict Leaks Wolverine Movie Trailer

July 28th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Entertainment, Technology, Videos, movies

Website TrailerAddict leaked the trailer footage shown at ComicCon of the new Marvel film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, that’s centered around popular Marvel comics X-Men character Wolverine, with some Sabretooth and Strider and Gambit action, it would seem.

I can’t wait for a more official version to be released, but for now it looks like this shaky cam footage will have to do. Enjoy!

One Week Left

May 18th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Daily Life, My Life

It’s one week left until my girlfriend-equivalent returns from out of town. I’m supposed to meet her back in my hometown where she’s visiting a friend, and I’ll be picking her up and bringing her back here.

I’ve missed her a lot, and most of you probably don’t care - but I haven’t really been as enthused about my day-to-day without her around.

She makes me happy, and it’s nice to have someone around that you know cares about you and you can share your thoughts with. Friends are good for this too, although with a couple of exceptions a lot of them have been unavailable during this past week. My friend Marq’s been good to me, hanging out and watching TV and playing video games, keeping my mind off things.

I’m off work on Friday, which I plan to spend driving to my folks’ house 5 hours away. I may see her then, we’re possibly going to see Prince Caspian (the new Narnia movie) this weekend.

French Filmmakers Test ‘Boundaries’ with Movie ‘Frontiers’

May 4th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in DVD, Daily Life, Entertainment, Lifestyle, movies

Coming soon to select theaters from French film company After Dark is a horror movie called “Frontiers(s)” that is supposed to rival blockbuster hits like “Saw” and “Hostel” in its goriness and suspense. The trailer is available to watch now at Frontiers Unrated Frontier(s). You have to enter the site and navigate almost all the way to the right to get to the even gorier unrated trailer.

My favorite thing about watching horror movies, since it’s hard to actually scare me when I’m watching a movie, is things that are almost feasible that make you cringe, such as torture or really shocking violent imagery. The kind of horror movies I can’t watch are the ones that depict some pain or torture just too horrible to picture myself enduring. It looks like this is a movie that might test that limit for me.

The trailer shows people being beaten, swung at with axes, one guy gets his Achilles tendon snipped by bolt cutters, and you see a guy with a table saw starting up the blades. The final image of the trailer before the title is just a woman with short hair screaming in agony.

The trailer on the main page is way less informative than the unrated one deeper in, so be sure and find it on the site. Also, this film is one of the few unrated films to actually make it to theaters. Most films get cut for theaters and then release an unrated version on DVD later.

What’s neat is this movie is only showing in a few select theaters starting May 9th, and just 4 days later on May 13th it comes out on DVD. If you can, I’d recommend seeing it in theaters first unless your home theater system is just awesome.

iMovie Festival 2008

Last night I attended the first annual iMovie Festival at the university at which I am employed. It’s not the first ever held, just the first one here. I have to say, it was pretty enjoyable.

I was expecting a series of more and more horrible films, and maybe a few shining-star examples that would probably win it all. Instead, I found a quirky set of five films that all had to include the phrase “over at the UC” (short for University Center) and at least one Apple product.

The first film was about a couple of guys hanging out and deciding to go get some food, then go up to a cliff to hang out and talk about serious life-goal type stuff. And of course, some kids are rolling along, and one guy is drivingĀ  while texting and he ends up hitting them. It was all very dramatic.

The second film was about “Urban Parkour” - although I suspect either these guys were very bad at it, or just mocking it. It wasn’t quite clear enough to be “laughed with” instead of “laughed at.” There was also a lot of really annoying slow-motion and bad techno music behind it.

The third film was called “Mozzerella Mahem,” about an undercover sting operation to bust an illegal cocaine-disguised-as-cheese ring based out of a pizza parlor. The cop is of course, discovered, and when the dealers try to run away, he busts out into an overly-elaborate action movie fight scene. Which, I might add, was really bad, but really funny.

The fourth film was by the campus Apple student rep, who did a film about possible meanings for the letters “UC” - it was okay. Some of the parts of this film were funny, at least. It was mostly just him looking into his iSight camera on his Mac and talking. The black & white filter and stylings were nice. Not terribly impressed though. I give him points for creativity.

The fifth and final film was probably saved for last on purpose. It was pretty awesome for what it was. The production value was nice for their budget and equipment. It was kind of a “Deadman’s Curve” meets “The Ring” meets every other film where they use that ghostly black-hair-over-the-face girl that crawls around really fast in stop-motion. But still, the makers of this film did a really good job.

And rightly so, because they won this competition and an iPod Touch - while the runner-up got an iPod Nano and the rest of the competitors got Shuffles.

Make it Stop. Seriously.

April 4th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Entertainment, movies

According to io9.com, Hollywood is out to take a dump on another of my favorite childhood memories. This time, their target is Bill and Ted.

The remake dares to take out and modify some of the most key components of the original films, such as the phone booth (being replaced with something “a little more funky”) and more up-to-date pop-culture references such as Bill and Ted being worried about missing upcoming Batman film, The Dark Knight.

Also, there is rumor that their band will not be called Wyld Stallyns (another key component they shouldn’t have messed with) but rather something like Atomic Gorillaz.
